Corset request. Jun. 13th, 2010 @ 03:40 pm

I am putting out an SOS on the offchance that someone out there can help me in the tight time frame that I've got.

My eldest daughter was killed in a car accident on Wednesday over in WA and I have to fly there to help arrange her funeral. The problem is, it's a six hour flight and I will be crippled by the time that I get there due to the constant sitting. I have to leave either Tues or Wed, and Mon is a public holiday, so it doesn't leave me much time. I'm in constant back pain as it is, but the thought of the agony that long sitting will create is really adding to my already monumental distress.

Does anyone have a corset, large sized, that they would be willing to loan/hire/sell to me? I am a size 16-18 top, and 20-22 hips, so I need a big one. I have found that the only way I can endure sitting for any long period of time is if I am tightly laced together and supported by a corset but I don't have one- I've been hoping to lose the extra baby weight before forking out for one. It seems the universe has other ideas. I didn't think I'd be able to afford a new one from Voodoo Lulu as I've been bombshelled by the mounting costs of funerals, flights, getting grieving siblings over there and accommodating a small horde. :(

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and ideas.

Does anyone know any places that stock Pleaser or Bordello shoes in Brisbane?
My sis is coming down to Brisbane and wants something from them.
Let me know if you do. Cheers.

We do so like an extravaganza in February, it sets a good tone for the year and 2010 is going to be a magnificent year. With that in mind, Black Productions is proud to bring you: Egyptophile. There will be mummy unwrappings, gentlemen celebrating their 29th Birthday ( Hip Hoorah to David!), Egyptian dancing and a host of other fabulousness to knock your kalasiris off. No re-animating the mummies please, they're a bother to get back in the sarcophagus.

Expect the usual brand of silliness and some wonderful entertainment from the likes of:

The Viola Cloning Project
Two For Tease
an uber special Mummy Unwrapping
and of course the PB Audio Corps playing steamy food for the ears.

In addition to the Egyptological extravaganza, Voodoo Lulu Alternative Clothing have been enormously generous and will be providing $150 worth of vouchers and a corset to give away.

Corset Info:
* Sizings - 22 inch - 50 inch waist. Actual corset sizes - 18 inch - 46 inch.
* Range - Choose from the VL standard range ($240) or winner can use the gift certificate as a credit towards a more expensive corset. This is for VL's corset range only.
* Standard Range Styles - All are Heavy duty, steel boned corsets in brocade.
* Standard Range Colours - White, cream, sliver and black, purple and black, emerald green and black, red and black, sapphire blue and black, baby pink and black, powder blue and black, black and black.

Funeral Homes Jan. 4th, 2010 @ 12:02 pm
[info]keraunophilliac
Hey Brisbane heads,

Just wondering if anybody knew of any good Funeral Homes in Brisbane. Preferably South Side, and for poorer folk. It would have to be non-religous. I'm not really sure what else I should include but any suggestions would be amazing.

Cheers guys,

Smelly

I have a great deal of respect for Getup!, but this is one of those things where I think more direct action is needed:

Sen. Stephen Conroy

Parliamentary office

Suite MG70
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600

Tel: 02 6277 7480
Fax: 02 6273 4154
Ministerial office

Level 4, 4 Treasury Place
Melbourne Vic 3002

Tel: 03 9650 1188
Fax: 03 9650 3251
Electorate office

Suite 1B
494 High St
Epping Vic 3076

Tel: 03 9408 0190
Fax: 03 9408 0194

email: minister@dbcde.gov.au

If you have access to a fax machine, I suggest faxing or emailing a protest letter to all three offices. Cost you a buck or two at most. Given the poor understanding the minister seems to have for the technology within his portfolio, I suspect old fashioned paper will have a larger impact. Me, I'm buying a book of stamps and getting onto it.

Secret filtering of our internet content, devised by some collection of old white men in some corner of Canberra is not acceptable. This community includes fetishists, shippers, wiccans, satanists and other students of the very sort of ephemera that is very likely to wind up on this little blacklist. I'd strongly suggest that everyone at least take the two minutes out of their day to rip off an email to Conroy letting him know just exactly how ridiculous this is.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

May we present Spectacular, Spectacular!, Prometheus Bound's 1st Anniversary. And what a night we have in store for you.

Club 320 will be transformed into dual rooms of sensory overload featuring the talents of: No Standing Cello Quartet
Opalesque Bellydance Troupe
Burlesque by Red Devotchkin
Roving Performance by Elke Pixie
The PB Audio Corps

The icing on the cake? Voodoo Lulu Alternative Clothing struts the boards with a fashion preview of visual magnificence.

Are you reeling? A little hot under those crisp collars and tight-laced corsets? We certainly are. And that isn't all.

Prometheus Bound plays host to a celebration of Razorjack, the "hard-boiled SF noir" from the embarrassingly talented John Higgins; better known for his work on Judge Dredd, 2000AD, Hellblazer, The Hills Have Eyes, Batman: The Killing Joke, and Watchmen.

PB will be partying on an international scale, with Com.X holding a sister party in the UK. To celebrate (and possibly tear holes in the fabric of reality), anyone showing up in a Twist Bitch costume gets discounted entry. Want to know more? Download the 22 page teaser here=>http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/books/book_extracts/article6569008.ece -- then visit your friendly purveyors of comic-y glory at Ace Comics Brisbane City for the trade collection.

On top of that we are running a raffle. Not your usual pay-some-money-to-possibly-win-something-you-really-don't-want kind of raffle.

We have Prize packs galore! Full of fantabulous goodies from Wondermark by David Malki (yes THAT Wondermark, the comic strip of Victorian glee), Dr. Steel, Com.X comics, Feybles, Von Borg Industries, PB's own bits and pieces and an assortment of other deliciousness.

Have no fear, for we will still be running our patented brand of audience participatory freebie giveaways. But be warned, the trivia will be harder and we are introducing charades. Adding to that we have so much stuff to give away we are also having a lucky dip on the door! Paying patrons get to ferret through the picnic basket and pull out a mysterious prize: In the spirit of awesome there will be no crap in there.

Doors shall be opening one hour early, 7pm to be precise, so that we may get through all of the above.

For now we must depart in search of tea. It will be a pleasure to see you on Saturday, 21st November at Club 320!

» Gothic Lolita fashion?
Hi all, I was directed here from [info]brisneyland so I hope this isn't inappropriate.

I'm going to a costume party in about a week and a half, and my plan is to either do a gothloli/sweet lolita outfit, depending on what I can find around Brisbane.

Does anyone have any recommendation of stores that might have what I need, obviously especially on the gothic lolita side? Thanks a lot!

» Monster Mash Halloweeny Roudup
Righto girls and ghouls. I'm not on Facebook, and I'm sure there are more of you out there, so I've done a roundup of what Halloweeny gigs I know of for our delectation here in LJ Land.

Summary:

The Globe is running a double feature: First off, they have a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, featuring the Cards for Sorrow floorshow. Doors are at 7, film is at 8. $15. After that is some sort of rockabilly band a thon, with three bands, burlesque dancing and a magician! Doors at 9, $10 entry.

Down the road from the Globe, the Step Inn is hosting a two-floor Halloween Carnival of Horrors, with more metal than you can shake a crowbar at. With seven bands, burlesque dancers and no magician. Doors at 6, $15 entry.

Faith is running as Lovecats Halloween Special. Most recent venue, for those of you living under a rock, is upstairs at the Transcontinental Hotel (482 George St, over the road from Roma Street Station). No word yet as to whether it's Doors at 9. I'm guessing cover is still $10 because I can't find any suggestions to the contrary.

Flyer collection under the cut! )

Am I missing anything critical? And is there anything worth doing on the Friday night? I've looked and there's not a lot to my blind eyes.
